Types of Mold
There are three types of mold: allergenic, pathogenic, and toxigenic. Allergenic mold causes allergies and allergic reactions. Pathogenic mold can further health concerns in those with preexisting illness. Finally, toxigenic mold produces toxic substances and can lead to lethal health conditions.
While some types of mold are more harmful than others, the CDC recommends removing any mold you find. Mold typically grows in damp spaces, so it’s important to be wary of harmful mold pathogens and their accompanying symptoms.
Allergy symptoms due to mold can include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, cough, and other common cold ailments. Mold toxicity tends to be more severe and can include weakness, headaches, sinus issues, and more. Therefore, please consult a professional if you are experiencing symptoms while not having a previous illness. If you have a preexisting condition and your symptoms are getting progressively worse, you may want to consider the possibility of mold as a contributing factor.
